Self Care for Women

As women, our lives are constantly busy juggling careers, household duties, caring for children, aging parents or maybe even a spouse with a serious illness. Oftentimes, we put ourselves last, but it is important to make time for self care. We are living in a very uncertain and stressful time due to the Covid Pandemic. Try to set aside a few minutes each day for an activity or hobby that brings you happiness (meditation, reading, journaling, painting etc.)

Physical activity is good for the body and mind. It promotes heart and bone health, reduces stress and improves mood. With more time spent working from home and sitting in front of a computer, it is important to take a break and go outdoors for a walk, run or bike ride for thirty minutes or more each day.

Another important aspect of self care is getting enough sleep. Adequate sleep leads to a stronger immune system, a healthier weight, reduced stress, a better mood and improved concentration. Adults should get 7-9 hours of sleep per night.

Finally, don’t postpone preventive care because of the Covid Pandemic. At The Women’s Center, we have implemented measures to keep you and our staff safe with Covid screening questions, temperature checks, hand hygiene and social distancing. Extra cleaning protocols are in place. We are here to take care of you, so please schedule your women’s wellness visit when it is due. If you are 65 or older we encourage you to get the Covid-19 vaccine.
